Why we decided to produce a psychological drama:
We decided to produce a drama because it is very broad and does not limit us with the audience it appeals to. Also with drama we can use mise-en-scène for a greater effect and this adds significance to the film.
We originally wanted to do a psychological thriller but that limited us with the plot of the film especially the ending. It also limited us in target audience as more people prefer drama to psychological thriller, whereas with a drama we could have more freedom with the plot and still have some thriller elements to it. With our original plot, we realised it had similar aspects to another psychological thriller, ‘Single White Female’, and we thought changing the genre would then cause our plot to change, giving it more individuality.
We decided to have a hybrid genre of a psychological drama We looked at similar films in the drama genre such as ‘Forrest Gump’ and ‘Shawshank Redemption’ and we tried to incorporate some relevant aspects of that into our film, such as a voiceover by the main character and the use of orchestral music.
